Built by Bath Iron Works for Harold Vanderbilt and the New York Yacht Club for the 1937 America's Cup defense, Ranger successfully did so by defeating Britain's Endeavour II.
But she met a premature end. In support of the US war effort during World War II, Ranger was disassembled in 1941 for materials to build warships.
