Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Are they fully completed?
Yes, everything is ready for display. We do not sell kits.
Are these kits?
No. They are not kits. All of our models are finished.
How are the models made?
Our models are made by hand using plank-on-bulkhead construction and a variety of high quality woods. This method of construction involves individual planks being fitted to the hull of the model, one at a time. Then they are finished and detailed to the exacting standards you see here. The result is a realistic and faithful replica of the actual ship because that's the same way real ships are made.
How accurate are the measurements?
Each ship model is shown with length, width, and height dimensions in inches (L x W x H). These dimensions represent the approximate maximum measurements of the model when displayed. Height is measured from the ground up to the highest point on the model, and includes the base on which the model is mounted.
If you are planning on displaying the model in a particular space such as on a mantle it is important to note that these models are handmade. There can be minor variation in dimensions from those stated. Also, keep in mind that there can be differences in accuracy between your measurements and ours.
Do you make these yourselves?
Our models are made by highly skilled craftspeople. We are not craftsmen and do not make them ourselves.
How are they sent?
All ships are packed securely in boxes or appropriate shipping containers. Models that are delivered via truck freight are secured to wooden pallets or skids. Such items are marked as such on their respective pages.
How long do they take to arrive?
Items ship within 2 business days, depending on when the order is received. We send them via Fedex Ground, US Postal Service or UPS Ground which usually takes 5 to 7 business days anywhere in the continental US. It is usually faster for east coast addresses since we are based near Washington DC. Express service is available on many items. Personal checks must clear before orders are shipped.
How is truck freight different from regular shipping?
Freight can be delivered to a home or business. The only requirement is that someone has to be available to sign for the package upon delivery. Delivery times are during normal business hours (Mon - Fri). You can specify a particular day for delivery. Some of our large models are shipped by truck freight because they are too large and delicate for delivery via parcel services.
Do you have a catalog?
At this time we work exclusively via the Internet because it is the fastest, most effective way for us to update our products and display our photos.
What if what I receive is not as I expected?
In our experience this has been very unlikely. Our photos clearly depict the models, and dimensions of each model are clearly marked on each item's page. But just in case, we back your purchases with our 100% guarantee. If you're not happy with your purchase please see our guarantee for further information.
What if mine is damaged when I receive it?
This is also a rare occurrence. All items are sent insured and we will promptly replace them or refund your money in case of damage in transit. See our guarantee. If your order is damaged, save the damaged items and all packaging. Contact us and we will take care of it.
How long have you been in business?
We've been in business since 2000. Our goal is to be the best source on the Internet for display-ready model ships, and to provide you with high value and excellent service.
How can I place an order?
You can do so online by clicking the "Purchase this item" button on any product's page, by printing our order form, filling it out and faxing or mailing it to us, or by calling us. Our contact information is at the bottom of each web page.
Do you have.....?
If you don't see an item or ship on our List of Ships then we don't carry it. A good source of information where you might find what you're looking for is our other site called Model Boat Links.
Can I sell my model ships, kits, or accessories through you?
No. For that we suggest contacting some of the other vendors listed in our other site at Model Boat Links.
I have more questions.
Please email us your questions and we'll promptly respond.
